Whilst the debate rages on about which is greener – e-books or paper books – one thing is certain: a borrowed book has the lowest impact simply by being read by more people.
After a fall in use from the early 2000s, library use has now stabilised and may be set to increase. Top performing libraries and loans of all types (i.e. not just books) are increasing
Libraries don’t just save carbon in terms of millions of books each year, they give people the opportunity to find jobs, undertake research, experience new ideas and get lost in wonderful stories. All while providing a sense of place for gathering.
By joining and using a library you help protect the service for those who need it most.
