Description

Train travel may take a little longer, but the impact on the environment is much less. It also allows you take in the scenery along the way. It may also work out cheaper to travel by train, depending on the route.

Flights produce greenhouse gases – mostly carbon dioxide (CO2) – by burning fuel. They are the worst offenders when it comes to increasing your carbon footprint. That’s why more people are choosing to travel by train for UK and near-Europe work trips and holidays. Trains produce only 41g of CO2 per person per km travelled compared to 133g for an airplane. According to Eurostar, taking the train from London to Paris instead of flying cuts up to 90% of CO2 emissions.

As an increasing number of meetings are now taking place over video call, it may be worth considering whether your business trip is necessary at all. If it is, could it be combined with a leisure trip to cut down on the number of flights overall?
